** As defined and identified by the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, a school outbreak of COVID-19 is two or more students or staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 within a 14-day period; and: - Could have had some close contact such as in a classroom or on a school sports team; - Do not live in the same household; and - Were not identified as close contacts of each other in another setting during a Public Health case investigation (e.g. friends who play together in each other’s homes)
. Outbreaks are considered closed or over after 28 days (i.e., two 14-day COVID-19 incubation periods) have passed without a new case linked to the school outbreak

Should a Horizon Honors student or staff member test positive for COVID-19, they must contact the Health Office immediately.

Students and staff with confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 will be required to follow Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) isolation guidelines.




COVID-19 Exposure Procedure:

 
If you are a close contact to someone with COVID-19 and you:
·         
Have received a COVID-19 booster; OR
·         Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months; OR
·         Completed the primary series of Johnson & Johnson vaccine within the last 2 months; 

You need to:
·         Wear a mask around others for 10 days following your exposure.
·         Get tested for COVID-19 on day 5 following your exposure, if possible.
·         If you develop symptoms, you should get tested for COVID-19 and stay home.

If you are a close contact to someone with COVID-19 and you:
·         Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and are not boosted; OR
·         Completed the primary series of Johnson & Johnson vaccine over 2 months ago and are not boosted; OR
·         Are unvaccinated;

You need to:
·         Stay home for 5 days. After that, you must continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days
·         Get tested for COVID-19 on day 5 following your exposure, if possible.
·         If you develop symptoms, you should get tested for COVID-19 and stay home.

Due to confidentiality laws, identifying information regarding the positive case will not be shared. 

If family members (including students) come in contact with a positive COVID-19 case OUTSIDE of school, please contact MCDPH for quarantine guidance.

Face coverings on the Horizon Honors campus are optional. The use of face coverings by Horizon Honors community members will reduce the overall amount of positive COVID-19 cases, as well as potential close contacts and close contacts that may require quarantining. Please send students to school with a mask and advise them to wear a mask inside school buildings.

Regardless of government regulation, Horizon Honors expects the use of face coverings to remain an important and long-term best practice in the fight against COVID-19.

Home Health Screenings:

Home Health Screening Checklist GraphicStaff and students should complete a Daily Home Health Screening and must remain at home if they exhibit any of the symptoms listed below.  

  • fever of 100.0 degrees or higher, or chills 

  • muscle aches

  • sore throat

  • headache

  • fatigue

  • congestion or runny nose

  • cough

  • vomiting or nausea

  • Diarrhea

  • new loss of taste or smell

  • fatigue (if combined with other symptoms above)


Additional symptoms to check for include:

  • Symptoms consistent with a contagious rash or communicable disease, such as chickenpox, measles, fifth disease, ringworm, pertussis (whooping cough), conjunctivitis (pink eye), etc. These conditions require a medical release to return to school.

  • Prolonged pain, discomfort, or other condition that inhibits the ability to concentrate and learn.

  • Altered level of consciousness or syncope. 

  • Head lice. Please notify Health Services if lice has been identified.  Children with lice and/or nits must remain at home until treated and cleared to return to school by Health Services. Students may not attend school until all nits and lice have been removed.
