Horizon Honors is an organization of K-12, public, charter schools that offers hands-on learning opportunities, global awareness, and collaborative leadership training in a rich technological environment.

SUBSTITUTE PAY STRUCTURE

  • $140/full day (4-8 hours) for certified positions
  • $ 70/half day (under 4 hours) for certified positions
  • $15.50/hour for support positions

In addition to the salary structure, Horizon Honors offers bonuses for substitutes per quarter:

  • 5-9 days:  $250
  • 10-14 days: $500
  • 15+ days: $1,000

Healthy Arizona Worksites Program Award

The Healthy Arizona Worksites Program (HAWP) Platinum Level Award is awarded to businesses making an impact both within and beyond their walls addressing one or more of the many health challenges impacting communities across the state. Platinum-level awardees have demonstrated data-driven programming and are leveraging cross-sector collaborations or partnerships improving the health, well-being, and equity of their community.

The Healthier Generation Award is a prestigious, annual distinction presented to schools that have demonstrated remarkable efforts to prioritize the essential health needs of students, staff, and families. Schools that receive a Healthier Generation Award meet or exceed best practice standards in one or more topic areas related to the physical, mental, and social-emotional health of students, teachers, and school staff.

Current as of June 2026:

Retirement / Pension Benefit: Horizon Honors Schools participate in the Arizona State Retirement System. As a member all employees are entitled to all benefits offered by the program. A summary of these benefits can be reviewed on their website at Arizona State Retirement System. Any employee who works twenty or more hours per week for twenty weeks per year must participate in the state system.

Health/Vision/Dental Insurance Benefits: All employees who work thirty (30) or more hours per week are eligible for health care benefits with a number of individual options. The school provides a basic health insurance plan, a basic dental insurance plan and life insurance at no additional cost to the employee. In addition, employees can increase the health care benefit as a buy-up option, or add dependents, with additional premium costs being paid by the employee. 

Life insurance: The school will pay for a $25,000 life insurance policy for any employees working thirty (30) or more hours per week.

Personal Leave/Sick Days: All full time employees are eligible for 3-5 personal days per year to be used for personal business. In addition, all employees may accrue up to 40 hours of sick leave annually.  Employees are reimbursed for unused personal business days or are allowed to bank unused personal business days in a Personal Emergency Bank. 

Paid Holidays: All full time employees are eligible for the following paid holidays: Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and Independence Day. Teaching staff members receive payment for those days that fall within their contract year.
